You must beware! Viral post ‘Yemi Osinbajo Support Fund’ in circulation is FALSE

A VIRAL message circulating on WhatsApp in Nigeria claimed that Professor Yemi Osinbajo through his campaign group was giving 33,000 Naira as a support grant to every Nigerian.

The message, retrieved from WhatsApp on May 31, 2022, claimed that the N33,000 is a support grant from the campaign support group of Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, a presidential aspirant on the All Progressives Congress platform ( PCA).

The complaint reads as follows:

Hurry now and check if you are eligible to receive ₦33,000 support grant from VP YEMI OSINBAJO campaign support.

This grant is available to all Nigerians.

Osinbajo officially declared his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election via his verified social media credentials on April 11, 2022, CIRI reported.

“I declare today, with the utmost humility, my intention to stand for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of the APC,” Osinbajo’s statement read in part.

Prior to the official declaration of Osinbajo’s presidential candidacy, several branches of Professor Yemi Osinbajo’s Support Group (PYO) had been inaugurated in states across Nigeria, The Punch newspaper reported.

Further verification revealed that the APC presidential hopeful campaign support group believed to be behind this viral WhatsApp claim is known as the Osinbajo Support Movement (OSM).

On its official website, the Osinbajo Support Movement claimed that it was a “group of patriotic Nigerians determined to ensure that the brilliant, hardworking, reliable and patriotic Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, competes and wins the presidential election of 2023”.

When The FactCheckHub contacted the OSM through one of its social media platforms, he said the allegation was false.

“It’s not from the vice president (Yemi Osinbajo), sir. This is absolutely fake news,” a page admin said in response to our reporter’s query.
