In the battle of the two heavyweights, New Zealand led by Kane Williamson faced England’s Eoin Morgan for a place in the 2021 ICC World T20 final on Wednesday. Rallying his troops in the first T20 World Cup semi-final at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, New Zealand skipper Williamson showed nothing but pure athleticism to take a superb grip in the first Powerplay of the rounds of England.

In-form hitter Jos Buttler and fortune opener Jonny Bairstow made sure England dominated the powerful Black Caps bowling unit in the first 5 overs. At a time when Morgan’s England was close to completing the first Powerplay without losing a single wicket, talisman Williamson pulled off a remarkable take to complete the sacking of opener Bairstow in the 6th. Williamson was applauded for his field masterclass against the Morgan-led team on social media.

For more on the game, England opener Buttler took New Zealand bowlers to the cleaners after Bairstow left. However, Buttler failed to cash in on his departure as England’s opener was foiled by spin magician Ish Sodhi. Spinner Sodhi cast a tidy spell for the Black Caps and disclosed 32 points in his four overs. After losing his first two games in the first 9 overs, England’s Moeen Ali showed his batting skills and propelled the Three Lions to a respectable total.

Ali teamed up with Dawid Malan as top hitters made sure England scored 110 points in 15 overs. While Moeen remained eager to record a sublime half-century, Malan perished after playing a quick 42-on-30 shot. Mid-order hitter Liam Livingstone then made a small appearance for the Morgan-led team after Malan was sacked in the 16th. Riding Ali’s first half-century in the ICC T20 World Cup, England led by Morgan managed to score 166-4 in the 20-a-side competition.
