New Delhi: Star India pacemaker Mohammed Siraj made a wonderful debut for Warwickshire as he claimed four wickets against Somerset on day one of the County Championship Division One contest at Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham.

Mohammed Siraj’s first ever wicket in the County Championship was Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq. The batter sent the ball from Mohammed Siraj straight into the hands of the wicketkeeper.

Mohammed Siraj then sent George Bartlett and wicketkeeper James Rew back to the clubhouse on the next two deliveries. Both hitters tried to play the balls to their merit but couldn’t resist the bowling power of Mohammed Siraj.

Mohammed Siraj’s fourth wicket turned out to be Josh Davey who went out for 21 runs. He received an lbw as the Indian bowler made a sublime delivery to take his fourth scalp. Lewis Gregory tried to make repairs with 60 on 93 balls but he has no support at the other end now as Somerset have lost 8 wickets for just 182 runs for the first wicket.

Warwickshire will be hoping to knock them out early on Day 2 and secure a nice first-innings lead.

“I can’t wait to join the Bears team. I have always enjoyed playing in England with India and I am delighted to discover County Cricket. Edgbaston is a world-class stadium and the atmosphere it created for the Test this year was special. I’m really looking forward to making it my home in September and hope to help the Bears finish the season well,” said Mohammed Siraj on joining Warwickshire for the county season.

The bowler has bowled 26 matches for India in all game formats and won 56 wickets.
