Time coverage of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could spark ‘transatlantic popularity contest’ with Kate Middleton and Prince William, according to royal expert
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex are on the cover of Time. So what does this mean for Harry’s brother Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and his sister-in-law, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge? It could put the two couples in a “transatlantic popularity contest,” according to a royal expert.

Time unveiled its annual list of the world’s most influential people on Harry’s birthday, September 15. Featured on the list? None other than the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Called icons, chef and humanitarian, José Andrés wrote a short profile on Meghan and Harry. He described them as people who “run towards the struggle”.
Not only that, but the couple also appeared on one of the seven covers. They posed for photos in their sprawling home in Montecito, California. Although people laugh at the coverage online, it marks a major moment for Meghan and Harry. It’s the first time they’ve officially posed for a magazine cover together.

Royal expert Duncan Larcombe spoke with OK! after the release of the cover of Meghan and Harry’s Time. The author of Prince Harry: The Inside Story, discussed what the blanket could mean for Catherine and William. Because of the coverage, couples, according to Larcombe, could fight over who is more popular.
“Kate and William are at risk of being drawn into a transatlantic popularity contest,” Larcombe said. “They will feel anxious about the blanket and everything Harry and Meghan are doing.” Why? Because “it always seems to reflect on them”.
He went on to say that it was normal for William and Catherine to get nervous when Harry and Meghan hit the headlines in the United States.
“William and Kate are concerned about absolutely everything that comes out of America when it comes to Harry and Meghan,” Larcombe said. “Especially Harry’s telltale warts and all the memories that are going to hit the shelves next year.”
“They have no control over the narrative,” he added.
Seems to be business as usual for the Sussexes and Cambridges

While the Harry and Meghan’s Time cover may start a popularity contest, it looks like everything is going business as usual. In the days following the magazine’s release, William and Catherine continued their royal duties. The Duke of Cambridge has announced the finalists for the Earthshot Prize, an environmental initiative he unveiled in 2019. Meanwhile, Catherine has returned to the limelight after not being seen in public for months.
As for Harry and Meghan, they will be making an appearance at Global Citizen Live in New York on September 25. They will, according to Vanity Fair, urge the European Union and the G7 to donate doses of the vaccine against the coronavirus (COVID-19) to countries in difficulty.
