Not all custom putters are created equal. It became very clear this week during the American Century Championship when former NBA star Vince Carter pulled out a true one-of-one from his golf bag – a Tad Moore blade specially designed to commemorate several of his. bigger dunks.

If you’re unfamiliar with Carter’s resume, head over to YouTube and get ready to pick your jaw off the ground. There’s a reason he goes by the nickname “Half Man, Half Amazing”. Before Carter soaks more than a 7-footer during the 2000 Olympics, he arguably produced the greatest performance in NBA Dunk Contest history months earlier during the league’s All-Star festivities. (Go see Carter’s performance if you’ve never seen her.)

The four dunks he performed during the contest – a reverse 360, between the legs, from the free throw line and arm to the rim – are some of the most iconic throws we’ve ever seen. Some moments from the dunk contest were even turned into viral GIFs.

“The dunk contest was special for me because a lot of these dunks, like the free throw line, I did it for the first time that night. I changed my dunk routine and it worked, ”Carter told “The rest is history.”

In the aftermath of the All-Star weekend, Carter recalled getting a call from someone who wanted to put her in to commemorate the moment.

“They said, ‘Hey, we wanna put you in a putter,’ Carter said. ‘I was just starting to get into golf depending on what I liked, and then I know, I said,’ Alright, cool “and I get the putter.”

The putter he received from master craftsman Tad Moore even wowed Carter. On the face were images of Carter throwing his famous four dunks. Moore even added Carter’s initials and jersey number (15) with a purple paint fill – he was playing for the Toronto Raptors at the time – to the back of the putter head.

“I putt pretty well with that,” he said. “It’s like my baby; everywhere I go he goes.

Carter has been using the putter for over two decades and has done his fair share of big putts with it over the years. Burying a putt that connects with neutral is fine, but even Carter admitted that a mark from the foot is extra-special.

“Every time I hit a good putt, especially the first shot, and it goes, I thank my four guys over there,” he said with a smile.
