Spanish defender Pau Torres names Liverpool’s Anfield as the best atmosphere

Spain and Villarreal defender Pau Torres says Anfield is the best atmosphere he has played against. Liverpool have much to be proud of.

Pau Torres gave an interview to DAZN recently in which he chose the best atmosphere in front of which he played. The Spanish centre-back couldn’t pick one, though – he went with two.

Anfield was one and the first he named for having the best atmosphere. Torres also hailed Hadjuk Split. The Croatian side clearly marked it.

Torres is not a small player either. He is now a regular for Spain, while Villarreal played in massive Champions League games last season. They knocked out Bayern Munich and Juventus en route to the semi-finals.

The atmosphere at Anfield, however, played a part in sending them home. Liverpool won 3-2 after giving up a 2-0 aggregate lead before half-time.

And for a player linked to £43million move at Manchester United last summer – among other things – it’s nice to see the love for Anfield. Liverpool have something very special, something few teams can match.

Pau Torres hails Anfield as the best atmosphere

It’s not really new to see a rival player hailing Anfield, of course. Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard recently called the ground “the noisiest in the country”. It came after his manager, Mikel Arteta, performed You’ll Never Walk Alone during a practice session to prepare for the atmosphere.

How many clubs receive this kind of compliment?

Curiously, another Arsenal man has complimented Anfield over the past year. Cesc Fabregas picked the pitch as his favorite to play on while giving a Q+A on Twitter.

It’s always fantastic to see, of course. Anfield is the pride of Liverpool and for good reason – many of the club’s greatest moments come from there, with the atmosphere taking the team to sensational heights.

The atmosphere is certainly not a myth and even the rivals recognize it.
