Kelowna Rockets forward Gabriel Szturc powered the Czech Republic to a 5-4 win over Slovakia on Tuesday at the 2022 World Junior Championship in Edmonton, Alta.

It was a wild game that saw Czechia trailing 2-0 before the ten-minute mark in the first frame before responding with four unanswered goals. Trailing 4-2 late in the third, Slovakia rallied with two power play goals to tie the game late.

As time ticked into regulation, Szturc rammed down the right wing and rounded a defender, beating goalkeeper Simon Latkoczy with a shot high over his glove to score the winner with 1:50 left in the game. stopwatch.

Szturc finished the game with one goal, two penalty minutes, three shots on goal and a +1 differential.

Fellow CHL players Jan Mysak (Hamilton), Michal Gut (Everett), Martin Rysavy (Moose Jaw), Matyas Sapovaliv (Saginaw) also scored for Czechia.
