Netflix’s Sonic Prime Series Still Looks Weirdly Menacing

Sonic the Hedgehog jumps off a cliff and extends his right arm to grab something.

When Netflix announced it would be making a CG animated series based on Sega’s beloved mascot and recent bonafide movie star sonic the hedgehog, most people have not thought about it. I did it, because I found the show’s official description surprisingly disturbing. Now Netflix has released the first trailer for Prime Sonicand… yeah, I think there’s something weird going on here.

To remind you, Prime Sonic gives the titular hedgehog one of those multiverses that are all the rage these days, where other Sonics presumably run around. Here’s how Netflix described the show last year:

The 24-episode animated adventure for kids, families and longtime fans builds on the brand’s keystones and presents the “Blue Blur” of video game fame in a clue-inducing adventure. high octane where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in its gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.

I remain puzzled that Sonic the Hedgehog is doing something so wrong that he needs to be redeemed in the eyes of his friends, the denizens of the multiverse, and possibly even Jesus Christ. But Prime SonicThe first trailer may have unveiled the sin the hedgehog will commit that will set him on the path to redemption:

Sonic Prime – Trailer

“He will shatter your world”? ! Guys, there’s no way breaking your world is a good thing, is there? Does Sonic (accidentally) go from universe to universe, shattering them? Is there an evil Sonic bent on destroying the multiverse, and ordinary Sonic must stop him? Does Sonic Pull a Marvel Infinity Ultron what if?

Sonic is currently scheduled to smash our world this winter when Prime Sonic debuts on Netflix. Let’s hope he gets along with the Lord before that.
