Manchester United confirm new loan clubs for James Garner and Tahith Chong
Manchester United have confirmed that both James Garner and Tahith Chong have made new loans.
Garner joined the Watford Championship squad at the start of the 2020/21 season but was limited to just 12 league starts, with eight appearances on the bench.
The 19-year-old has struggled during the first-team minutes since the Hornets sacked Vladimir Ivic, replacing him with Spain boss Xisco Munoz as the club seek an automatic return to the Premier League.
Garner has already played seven times for United’s first team, but in search of regular first-team football he will spend the remainder of the campaign with Nottingham Forest, led by Chris Hughton.
Forest is in 21st place in the table, three points above the relegation zone, having seriously underperformed so far and Garner could make his debut against Coventry City on Tuesday.
“I’m made up – the club, the stature, the history, it’s definitely something I was looking forward to. As soon as I found out I was very interested,” Garner said.
“The game I played (earlier in the season) was pretty boring, wasn’t it! It was a 0-0. But at the team level, there are a lot of quality players in the workforce. I am very surprised where we are in the table. “
Chong, meanwhile, left Werder Bremen after starting just four times in the Bundesliga.
The 21-year-old winger scored a goal for Bremen in the DFB Pokal Cup and as a result his stay in Germany was cut short.
Chong was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw with Schalke on Saturday afternoon and will now play his football for Belgian side Club Brugge.
“It was a pleasure to represent this club [Werder] in recent months, ”Chong said on Twitter. “Even though it wasn’t long, I learned a lot and left the club with great memories and friendships. Good luck for the rest of the season.
