Kyiv mayor says ‘several Russian rockets’ fell over capital



Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko said on Wednesday that “several Russian rockets” were fired at the Ukrainian capital after AFP reporters heard loud explosions in the center of town.

“Air defenses shot down several Russian rockets over Kyiv. Stay in the shelters! Klitschko said on social media.

On Monday, Russian attacks with Iranian-made drones targeting energy infrastructure killed at least five people in Kyiv.

Governor of the Kyiv region, Oleksiy Kulebawrote on social media that air defenses were also operating in the area.

Ukraine’s military command in the north said on Facebook that “two more missiles” were shot down in the Chernigiv region, neighboring Kyiv.

New strikes on energy infrastructure were also reported in the Vinnytsia region in central Ukraine.

“The enemy strikes energy installations. There are hits in the Vinnytsia region. Emergency services are on site,” the governor said. Sergi Borzov said on Telegram.

Earlier Wednesday, Ukraine said its military had shot down more than 220 Iranian-made drones in just over a month, following attacks this week that used “suicide bombers”.
