Konnan comments on backstage atmosphere in AEW, taking FTR Piledriver
On the last edition of his “Keeping It 100” podcast, Konnan commented on his recent appearance on AEW Dynamite where he faced off against Tully Blanchard, which resulted in him taking on an FTR piledriver. You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
Why the segment went the way it did: “You have to watch the end of the game. If I was able to outsmart Tully, this way during my tenure there, that means I’ll be back.
On how the San Diego curfew almost prevented the onset: “I must have texted Tony [Khan], ‘I’m embarrassed to know that you already announced me for something on live TV. But there is a curfew in San Diego and I won’t make it. He came back to me. He got up very early and came back to me. He said to me, “Yeah, I got my guys waiting for him,” you know, and they found me a flight, and then I had to get on the plane from Orlando to Jacksonville, this that’s two hours. I literally arrived 45 minutes before my segment, not knowing anything to say or do because they were just, “Yeah, you have four minutes and 30 seconds and you take that piledriver.” I forgot what it looked like, to tell you the truth until I felt fucked up. But, I thought it went well, I did. I think it could have come out better. But you know, I was happy with it.
In the backstage atmosphere of AEW: “Being behind the scenes here has been one of the greatest experiences of my career because everyone is very, very happy, and everyone is very helpful and everyone is very professional. Everyone’s fair – there’s only one room where Don Callis, Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, they’re all in there. They play basketball, they watch the NBA. It’s a really fun atmosphere and I was like, “Wow, I wish I had grown up in this type of atmosphere. »Because everyone is happy. As I saw Vickie, I haven’t seen her for 15 years. I hadn’t seen Jerry Lynn for 15 years. I saw Big Show, I haven’t seen it for 15 years. Legit, they’re very happy and it’s like, you know, it’s really good. I’m not trying to find a job there or anything like that bro, it’s just a really cool vibe. Even after the show, they have food for everyone in this large conference room. You can take food to your room, you can eat it there. Then they have this other little living room where everyone is listening to music, vibrating and relaxing, you know what I mean? It’s a very, very beautiful, very, very beautiful atmosphere. I meant that.
