Toledo Rockets 2021 college football preview: offense

It was a short six-game season and the offense worked really well. The O was second at MAC and 13th nationally averaging 494 yards and 35 points per game, and now he’s got everyone back except TE Drew Rosi. He has the potential to be the strongest attack to date under head coach Jason Candle, but that means he needs a big year of passing play.

This is Eli Peters’ quarterback position to lose after leading the team hitting 68% of his passes with nine touchdowns and two picks before being eliminated for the last two injured games. Carter Bradley is a solid veteran who stepped in and performed well in the last two games for the MAC’s best passing game, and Dequan Finn gets every shot to work.

The receiving body is among the best in the MAC, starting with main target Isaiah Winstead – who averaged over 17 yards per catch with a record 25 catches – and there’s plenty of help around him. Bryce Mitchell led the team with 679 yards and over 19 yards per take in 2019, and he’s back after averaging nearly 26 yards per take last year.

The offensive line is loaded. Bryce Harris is a center of stars leading a group that brings everyone back with a lot of depth. It’s not a massive line – everyone weighs around 290 pounds – and anyone can move, but he has to be better at keeping defenses out of the backfield and has to be stronger for the ground game.

Bryant Koback only seems to have been around for 15 years – he’s led the team with 522 rushing yards and four scores, and he can catch too. Koback and speedster Micah Kelly are a dangerous 1-2 punch.
