Legacy of your bets
According to the latest weather forecast, we should enjoy a break from the rain this weekend. If so, why not wrap up warm and head to the popular open-air cinema at Umm Al Emarat Park? There are two screenings of the film this Saturday (5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.) Sonic the hedgehog. Sega mega star Sonic the Electrically Fast Blue Hedgehog teams up with live-action James Marsden to thwart the dastardly plans of Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) in this weirdly passable video game adaptation with vocal support by Ben “Jean-Ralphio” Schwartz.
The films are free, but the entrance to the park is charged 10 Dhs. Located at Umm Al Emarat Park, ummalemaratpark.ae

A brand new “Extreme Weekends” motocross stunt show will kick off at the Zayed Festival this Friday, January 7, then continue every Friday, Saturday and Sunday (6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. daily) until the festival closes. Expect daring feats, gravity-defying stunts, and wild tricks as the bloated dirt bikes soar through the air like fluorescent two-stroke hawks. Oh and there are also fireworks on Saturdays at 10 p.m.

A rosé under another name
As part of the UAE’s great brunch migration, La Petite Maison’s (LPM) new La Vie En Rosé brunch has been moved to Sunday – and it really looks like * the chef’s kiss * magnificent. And why not ? The restaurant flies the flag of French gastronomy, swapping that famously unadorned, unpretentious Parisian accent, letting the food do the talking. What can we expect on the plate? Burrata LPM with tomatoes & basil and snails with garlic butter to start. Grilled sirloin steak; roasted baby chicken marinated in lemon; sea bream fillet with pesto and peppers; and pumpkin risotto for the main course. Your must-have desserts include warm chocolate mousse with malt ice cream, vanilla crème brûlée or LPM’s famous cheesecake. No, I do not regret anything.
LPM, Al Maryah Island, Sundays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., two people minimum, soft 375 Dhs, premium pink grape package 450 Dhs, premium sparkling pink grape 575 Dhs. Phone: (02) 692 9600, lpmrestaurants.com
A magnificent Corniche-front leisure complex, West Bay recently opened a new combination wave pool and lazy river, to add to the already extensive range of entertainment facilities. And Lazy Rivers is one of that little collection of things (which also includes cheesecake, salary texts, and Bob Marley music) that literally no one likes. Access to the pool and artificial river is free with West Bay Day Passes. During the week, adults enter for 150 Dhs, but recover 100 Dhs on food. On weekends it’s Dhs200 but you still get the Dhs100 back in the form of credit.
West Bay, Abu Dhabi Corniche, swimming pool and adventure park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., day passes available from Dhs150 (with Dhs100 back for food and drink purchases). Phone: (02) 692 437, @westbayabudhabi
